Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English

The Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English is structured to develop educators who possess both a strong command of the English language and the pedagogical skill to teach it effectively at the secondary level. The program covers linguistic theory, literary analysis, writing instruction, and the principles of second-language acquisition. It prepares future teachers to approach English education not only as a technical skill but also as a cultural and intellectual practice, enabling students to navigate language with precision and critical insight.

Grammar and composition, literary theory and criticism, Philippine and world literature, speech and oral communication, language assessment, sociolinguistics, and language curriculum design. They will also be trained in classroom strategies that address diverse learning contexts, promote communicative competence, and foster a thoughtful engagement with texts.

Graduates may work as English teachers in secondary schools, academic writing tutors, editors, curriculum writers, ESL/EFL instructors, or education researchers. The program also provides a strong foundation for those pursuing further studies in literature, linguistics, creative writing, or education.

The program integrates classroom instruction with teaching internships, literary workshops, and research in English education. Students engage with both classical and contemporary texts, practice lesson planning and delivery, and explore how language shapes thought and identity. Emphasis is placed on clarity, coherence, and adaptability in teaching English in multilingual and multicultural settings.
