In order to provide a showcase venue for budding local filmmakers, the 5th Lutas Film Festival was organized by Foundation University, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), last August 15 to 17.


For this year, among the 11 entries, the following were adjudged as winners:


  • “Tubod” by Geraldyn Acibron – Best Film

  • “Ang Paglimbasog sa Managhigalaay aron Makalingkawas” by Paul Benzi Florendo, Jetmore Banot, Jomar Allan Solania and Bruce Lloyd Imbo – Special Jury Prize

  • “Budhi – The voice of your Soul” by Glennifer Krystel E. Gocotano                              – Best in Sound, Best in Editing

  • “Dula” by Marco Simpao – Best Screenplay

  • “Keeping Up with Relationship Goals” by Joevic Christine Baclayanto                         – Best in Cinematography

  • Marco Simpao (“Dula”) – Best Director

  • Jesse Emmanuel Garcia (“Lubong”) – Best Actor

  • Mae Grace Balauro (“Tubod” – Best Actress

  • Jerome Vince Reyes (“Bitoy Bayoyoy”) – Promising Talent Special Award

The pool of adjudicators was comprised of Teddy Co, Chair of NCCA National Committee on Cinema; Baby Ruth Villarama, Director/ Producer, NCCA Committee Member; Fatrick Tabada, Writer of Patay na si Hesus and Victor Villanueva, Director of “Patay na si Hesus.”


Before the film screening at the Sofia Soller Sinco Hall, Villanueva and Villarama shared their expertise to budding local filmmakers through a special lecture on Film Directing/Producing and “The Art of Storytelling,” respectively.


Lutas Film Festival began in November 2014 with funds from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as a means to support the filmmakers in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental. Since its inception, Lutas has ignited the growing interest of the youth in filmmaking.
